German:

This week we have a theme of Time, so lets learn how to tell time in Germany! Now do we all remember how to count in German? lets review quickly... i will just put the german, and if you want to review how to pronounce the words, go back to the lesson for September 30th! so just a quick review:
Eins
Zwei
Drei
Vier
Fünf
Sechs
Sieben
Acht
Neun
Zehn
Elf
Zwölf.

So to make it a "teen" number you just put the Zehn (10) after each number... Vierzehn (14) etc...now to make numbers after the teens, the structure is interesting... like in olde english, you would say "One and Twenty" (21) that would be: Eins unt Zwanzig. the "Zig" is like the "ty" at the end of english words. Also the Germans are on the 24 hour clock, so for 1 pm you would say it was 13 o'clock or "dreizehn uhr" (13 hour) so lets get into the actual translations shall we?

German: Uhr (OOO-ah)
English: hour (also Clock, O'clock)

German: Halb (HAL-b)
English: Half to (in german, the hour is always to the next hour for example 1:30 would be half to two or "Halb drei" get it?

German: Viertel vor (VEE-er-tel VOR)
English: Quarter to

German: Viertel nach (NAH-ch)
English: quarter past

So some time examples! I am assuming you will not need translations on these since you can just read a few sentances before...

German: Halb Vier
English: 3:30 am

German: Halb Zwanzig
English: 7:30 pm

German: Viertel Nach neun
English: 9:15 am

German: Vietel vor elf
English: 10:45 am

German: Achtzehn uhr
English: 6:00 pm

German: zwei unt zwanzig uhr
English: 10:00 pm (two and twenty o'clock which is 10pm... get it?)

see? it is not that hard! so this turned out well this week... as usual if you are stumped by the german post comments, and i will do my best to help (as you know i am still learning myself, but i think i got this one! hehe) also let me know what new feature you would like to see on this blog... and submit your ideas for themes... next time i think may be new years... maybe... i am not sure...and don't forget updates are every two weeks now so the net post will be on January 6th 2009!! wow already 2009... sigh... Well i guess that is it for this week! see you next time!

Wednesday, December 17, 2008

News of the Week:

So i havent done muchthis week other than kn it a scarf i am making for my aunt for x-mas. i am almost done, i only have a few more rows, and then casting off, so i moved on to the scrapbook i am making for my mom. i have a bunch of old pictures of her as a kid, and i am putting them into a scrap book. i am hoping to find my camera, and take pics of each page so you guys can view them and tell me how much you love them. lol. now lets see... i went to my uncles house this weekend for Thanksgiving. we go every year. it was fun. other than that, i dont have any news... things have been slow here.... finals start soon, and then i will have about a month to relax, before school starts... then i will be working a lot more, so that i can afford to go on another road trip in the summer 2010. So far i know we are hitting St. Louis, San Fransisco, The Grand Canyon, New Orleans, and Wiliamsburg VA. i am sure we will also go to Arkansas to at least for a day to see my cousins new baby... though the baby will be two by then but thats ok i guess, since i cant afford to go befor then.

German:

This week we will do some grammer! German nouns are broken up in to 3 catagories; Masculine, Feminine, and Neutral. There is no trick to learning the words... it is not like in Italian or spanish where the feminine end in "a" and masculine end in "o"... from now on, when i give you wordsi will try to give you the article too. Masculine words get the article "der" (day-er), feminine get "die" (dee) and Neutral get "das". Also, all nouns have to be capitalized... all the time. So... here are some examples.

German: das Auto (AOW- toe)
English: the Car

German: das Haus (House)
English: the house

German: die Altstadt (AH-L-SHH-tat)
English: the oldtown

German: die Bar (BAH)
English: the bar

German: die Entschuldigung (EN-SHOE-L-dee-GUNG)
English: the apology

German: der Rhine (RINE)
English: the Rhine

German: die Stadt (SCH-dat)
English: the street

German: die Schokolade (SHOW-KO-la-deh)
English: the chocolate

German: das Becken (BEH-KUN)
English: the sink

Well i guess that is it for this week! Next week i have a whole planed theme, which will be fun! Though the German will be very advanced, but wee will plow through!!! it is great! see you next week!

News of the Week:

So lets see... I didn't do much this week... I was just waiting for Heather to visit... so she came on Monday, and hung out with us for about 2 hours... though she has a job, so she couldn't stay... pout. She was up for the Stargate Atlantis (SGA) convention. I cant complain to much cause she got me an autographed picture of my second fave character "Chuck" played by Chuck Campbell. My fave character was not there, so she got that one. Aperently he was shocked that he has a fan base... lol. Anyway the pic of the week is him, just so you know who he is. The Autograph says: "Francine, Thanks for your support! Chuck Campbell" and he put a smiley face. I just adore him!!! Heather had an awesome time, and you will have to visit her site, cause she will probably write about it! http://tales-of-swanky.blogspot.com/ but other than that... slow week...

Of Presidents and Liverpool

Hey Y'all!!! Sorry this is out sooo late. I know you all await this with bated breath... lol. so lets not waste any more time!!!

News of the Week:

So this week i was sooo busy! On Tuesday I did some research and FINALLY found my English Premeir League team! My team is Liverpool. This is their website, though i know noone wants to look at it! http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/ Then for the rest of the week I cleaned and decorated for my halloween after party. That was fun. Alex did a dance to Tearin' up my Heart by N SYNC for tony... Cindy got in on tape... and Danny, Dan, and I used the OUIJA board... It was suprisingly acurate... though who knows if one of us was sub conciously moving it... though i did see it move when noones hands were on it... and on sunday and monday i recovered from the party... cleaning etc. and then Tuesday, i was busy voting, going to school, AND watching a Liverpool game... which is why i missed my Tuesday deadline... while we are on the subject... you know what pisses me off???? all these freakin crazy right wing people who act like they are the only smart people, because they voted Mcain... and you know what? I am sick of it! if Mcain won, i would not be calling people sutpid. I would hope that he could improve this country. and i would not have sore fealings about it. I am not saying that all Mcain suporters are like that... I know that Heather may not support Obama, but she is not going to act like everyone who voted for him was stupid... it is people like that who are dividing this country apart! and you know what? i am talking of spicific people, but i am nice, so i am not putting their names, but you understand why i am so mad!!! and i HOPE they read this, so that maybe they can improve their crappy aditudes!!! anyway... i have to calm down... ok so thats about it... thanks for letting me rant.

German:

OK so I have no idea what to do for German this week... I didn't get alot of feedback, so i think i will talk about the German Football Team today! (see Danny! You don't have to learn this week! Just Enjoy!)

So here is a logo of the German football team

So the team was founded in the 1880's but it gets a bit messy because of the 2 World Wars... They have won the European Championships 3 times... 1972, 1980 and 1996. They have won 3 World Cups...1954, 1974, and 1990. This past European Championships they made it to the Finals agianst Spain. They sadly lost 1-0. Though, the Spanish goal was spectacular, and scored by Liverpool's own Fernando Torres. (i hate Spain though... lol). They do not have their own stadium, but rather rotate home games between the regional stadiums. (i think this is a good idea, since the German people do not have much National pride, and this helps). Their current team consists of popular playsers:
Captian: Michael Ballack

Striker Lukas Podolski

and CRAZY Midfeilder Bastian Schwiensteiger

So thats about it for this week!!! I know that it is late, so i kept it short!!

News of the Week:

So this week Heather ttaught me how to do some html, so i am hoping that they work! lets see... what happened this week? not much until Sunday, Alex and I were about to leave work, and i went to get my keys, and realized... i locked them in my car... at least it wasnt running! so i had to call Tony for a key... and i felt mad bad, so i bought him a Manchester United poster. THEN i was going out to my car on Monday, and i noticed i had a flat tire... so Tony said we could get some air at the gas station and then get it changed, but when we got to the gas station Tony noticed the hole, and it was leaking air faster than he could fill it, so we had to call AAA and get it changed since i dont have a wrench thingie... (gosh, i am such a girl... lol) and then i had to go home on the donut to meet the gas man, and Tony went to get me a new tire. such car drama!!!! I am also getting ready for my Halloween after party... I think there will be about 10 ish people... Though, i am pissed that people cant even rsvp... even if they are not sure they are gonna come, it only takes like 20 seconds to say yes or no... it is mad rude. anyway... enough venting... I got the cats costumes too... Lolli will be Ellen, Six will be a mouse, and Rusty will be, well i am not sure... I have a collar that could be used as a second ellen, but maybe i should give him something more girly and make him Portia de Rossi to make him and Lolli match... i havent decided... I also have been into this show "Robin Hood" it is a BBC show i am getting from Netflix I Love the guy who plays Guy Of Gisborne. Richard Armitage is his name... here is the BBC site. Check it out!!!

So we sat at the bar and Alex was talking to this woman on her right, and Cindy and her boyfriend were talking amungst them selves, so i was just starring off into space and i notice the bartender pouring out Guinnes, so i was like let me look at who got that, since it is Keith Harkin's favorite drink... just kinda absently, and then i was like oh that guy is kinda cute for an older guy... wait he looks like chef Robert Irvine... but it cant be... not in the middle of nowhere in Connecticut! so i was like oh he just looks like him. and then i noticed the Chef of the restarunt came over and was talking to him... and i was like omg it IS!!! (by the way incase you are living under a rock, he is on the Food Network's show "Dinner Imposible" and has a CRAZY hot body!!!!!) and for like 20 minutes i was like i am gonna go over there... no i am not.... yes i am.... no...yes...no... so then Cindy's boyfriend was like "Cindy! that is the guy from Food Network!" and i was like I KNOW!!! i have been looking at him for like 20 min!!! and i was like Jarrod! go get his Autograph!!! but he was not gonna do it... soooooooo guess what i did? yup! i went over and got it!!! i got up (kicking Cindy in the prosess. Sorry Cindy!!!) this is aproximately how the convorsation went (i am not positive cause the Adrenilane was crazy!!!)

me: (tap tap on his rippling shoulder) Um... Excuse me...Are you Chef Robert Irvine?
him: yes i am
me: can i get your Autograph?
him: sure!
Me: oh my gosh thank you! (i handed him the only paper i had in my purse which was my pay stub. He flipped it over) oh that is just the only paper i had it is my pay stub.
him: ok so Francine
me: yup My mom is going to be so jelous! we love you and she thinks you are so hott!
him: so what do you do francine?
me: (not wanting to tell a famous chef that i work at dunkin donuts) oh well, right now i am a student.
him: oh what are you studying?
me: history
him: (while signing) ah well i am getting some pictures down in a little while so if you want to wait i will give you one of those.
me: oh wow that would be great!
his friend: are those the x rated ones or the regular ones?
him: the x rated ones.
me: oh my gosh my mom would like that even more! (he handed me back the paper and pen) thank you so much!!! (i walked away)

this is what the autograph says:
"Francine- Great meeting you!! Thanks for watching the show. Mom, I love you too!! Robert Irvine :) 'Dinner Impossible'"

I couldnt get up for a little bit... but noone wanted to stay, so we didnt... we went back to the cassino and i lost 15 more dollars. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

Food and Fun

Hey all! (or should i say Guten Tag!) Welcome to Stop the World! I has been a busy and fun week, so lets get started!

News of the Week:
So this weekend Tony and i went to see CELTIC THUNDER!!!!!! It was so awsome. i love them! they did all the songs on the DVD, and also Danny Boy. We were there sooo early. my mom told us to leave at 2 in case there was traffic, so we did... no traffic. AND it only took us like a minute to park, so we were there and out of the car by 3:30... the show started at 9. we wandered around a bit, and we ate... we wandered about some more... FINALLY it was 7:30, so we thought lets go see if anything is going on, so we wandered over to the theater, where a rather substantial que had formed. we got in it, and at 8ish they let us in. we found our seats (which incidentaly were 3 rows from the top... kinda reminded me of one broadway show...) the show was awsome... my camera bateries ran out, so i was not able to get alot of pictures, but once i get them on disc i will post them. Oh, and the woman sitting next to me ONLY clapped for Danny Boy... I know!!! Isn't that messed up?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!!? she didn't even clap for Ireland's Call, and all the crazy Irish old ladies clapped for that! Stupid Skank. And she was like my mom's age... it is not like she was 100 years old! ugh. i got one of those fancy programs too... So yeah that was Celtic Thunder. The rest of the week was boring, since i have been sick... on friday i took a Philosophy test... he says it will be 2 or 3 weeks before he hands them back... he is incredibly weird... but yeah... thats it for this past week... hopefully the next will be more exciting...

New Format

Hey All! or who ever reads this! lol here is my weekly update! i figured that i would update on tuesdays or wednesdays, since i have a big break between classes on those days. so, i decided to have a format for my posts, so it is not just news on my week, and this way will be fun for all! (if indeed, more than just Heather reads this) ok so the new format will be as follows:

1. news of the week
2. song of the week
3. quote of the week
4. this week in history
5. interesting or funny pic of the week
6. finaly the part i am sure you all have been waiting for, German of the week!!

so lets begin, shall we?

News of the week:
this weekend my mom was in Maine, so i had a pretty uneventful week. i had 2 tests. one in Chinese culture, and one in Korean culture. I think i did ok, but you never know... i did get an 86 on my Korean one, and i will probably find out the Chinese tomorrow. mostly when i wasn't working or at school, i played football (just fyi, i ALWAYS say football instead of soccer, if i mean the american football i will say american football, otherwise just assume i am talking about soccer.) with tony on the gamecube. on thursday i went to On the Border with Alex. it is always a fun night. we went to AC Morre, where i got the 10th or 12 stocking stuffers... Yay! but other than that...

Song of the Week:
in this section i will put all my songs on random and the first one that comes up will be the song of the week... just to be fair... unless otherwise noted...

well since tony and i are going to see Celtic Thunder at MGM Grand at Foxwoods on saturday the song of the week is, picked at random, since they are all good!... "Lauren & I" sung (and written) by Keith Harkin! this is not my favorite, but i wanted to be fair! lol this song comes from Celtic Thunder's self titled album... to get the full experiance, i would recomend getting both "Celtic Thunder" and "Act Two", or you could get all but 3 of the songs by watching "Celtic Thunder: The Show" it is sold on amazon.com, or you could look it up on youtube, although i dont think all the songs are on there, but you WILL get to see "Chirstmas 1915" which is NOT on the DVD. Here are some links to Celtic Thunder stuff, i will not always be able to put links on the song section, but i will try.

Quote of the Week:
Here i will put a fun or prosaic quote, please comment, and tell us your thoughts on the comment! if it is one i heard in real life, i will put a little backround, since some of the things i hear at school are INSANE!!!

todays quote comes from my classical mythology class. keep in mind we are talking classical mythology here... so the teacher was saying how the end of the Greek and Roman gods was Christianity and this girl whispers to her friend...

"Why do we always end up talking about religion in this class?"

I think this needs no further explination...lol

This Week in History:
the question i have for YOU is, do you think we should do it from the comming week, or the past week? for now, i will do the comming week (including this day).

On September 30th 1955 James Dean Died in a car crash in California.

On October 1st, 1971 Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida opened

since we are going to see Celtic Thunder, i thought i would keep up the theme!

so i have decided that i am 25, and beggars cant be choosers. so i am making a move on 3 guys... tim who is at school though as i am sure i have said he is probably 18, but i guess it cant hurt... except my pride. lol also there is the guy who comes into the store... bradley or brandon or whatever... i even know what i am going to say to him. when i next get a chance to talk to him, i will be all 'you know that offer to call me still stands, so if you ever find your self single, let me know" what do you think? and i am talking to this guy from match.com called Patrick, though he is kinda borring... but he does know altittle about real football... not much, cause he watches american football (from now on this will be refered to as rugby lol) he has a cat named squishy... kinda gay... lol. and i dont know how to log on to the school's wireless... you need your windows login... but i dont know that... i wonder how to get it... i cant look it up, since it will not let me navagate away from that page w/o a password. grrrrrr so i will look it up when i get home i guess. owww my finger hurts!... so anyway here is a random thing for today

random thoughts

So Random thoughts...

1. I was driving to school today and on the corner of willow st, there was a cop directing traffic... what pissed me off was i had a GREEN ARROW to turn and he let all these people going the other way go! it pissed me off royaly!!! anyway...

2. Did you ever kinda judge people by their names? for example there is a girl in my philosophy class named "Cinnamon". now i ask you... WHAT??? Who names their kid after a spice??? I mean what kind of job oppertunities soes this person have? other than stripper... "Ladies and Gentlemen, the president of the united states Cinnamon Jones!" come on now!

3. Next time you are in a park or area where there are alot of people and squirels just watch the people... it is weird how people just can not take their eyes off those little rodents... weird...

4. Do you really need a microphone in a class of like 15 people? My philosophy teacher has a wireless mic that he uses... we have AT MAX 20 people in the class... crazy old guy...

that is all for now...

Stop the world... I wanna get off!

do you ever look at you life a go "what the hell???" i have been doing that alot... i know i dont talk about it to my friends, but i cant seem to vocalize these things... so when i am laying in bed at night just thinking, cause i cant sleep and it is freekin 2:30 in the morning, i think over things and... i dont know... think that there has got to be somthing more...i mean i need a break... not like a vacation type of break, since i just had a pretty cool one with heather, but like a life break... some times i think life is moving way to fast for me. here i am with just about 1/3 of my life gone, and what have i got to show for it? lets review... here is what i always Thought would happen by the time i was 25

1. Graduated College
2. Be engaged, if not married
3. own a condo, if not a house
4. have a job that i actually LIKED, and would look forward to going to everyday... or atleast that i could say "yeah i work here" to people with out being embarassed

and here is how my life stands respectivly

1. still in school with AT LEAST 3 more years to go
2. I dont remember the last time i had a DATE, let alone a boyfriend... (i mean seriously... maybe 7 year since i had a boyfriend? i dont know...)...or a snog. the only guys i know are either GAY or to young for me (think like 7 years to young...)
3. I live alone with 3 cats in my mom's attic, which i feebaly call an apartment...
4. i work at Dunkin donuts for a little more than minimum wage. I HATE nay DREAD going to work. as soon as i leave on sunday i spend the rest of the week dreading going back. i am constantly worried about being fired for the stupidest little thing like wearing the wrong shoes or something... i cant call out, since i will be fired if i don't find my own replacement, so i go in sick more times than not. i dislike, if not hate 90% of the people i work with. i can think of only 3 people in the whole store that i dont want to kill atleast once in a shift. and most of the time there is so much drama and back-stabbing that it is a wonder i am still there.

so now what? there has got to be a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow right? right? i really am trying to look on the bright side of things most of the time, but... it is sooooo much easier to manage my friends lives than my own... and i know my friends try to help me out, but when i get to the moment and i am all alone... there is nothing there... nothing to say... it is easier said than done... i am sorta set in my ways... god that is horrible to say at 25 is it not?
sometimes i notice my self acting pessimistic so that i dont jinx anything... like i will say "oh i wont pass that test" when deep down i want to... or "he is just being nice cos he is that way" or "guys like that dont go for girls like me" but you know what? i desprately want them to... but all my tying to convince myself gets me nowhere...

i feal trapped... trapped in this never-ending monotany that is my life... every week it is the same... tomorrow i will wake up, clean my "apartment" go to work, come home, go to bed, get up, go to school, come home, go to bed get up, go to school...etc. until friday when i will get up, go to school, come home, go to work, come home go to bed...etc.

i am a sandwich person... like in kids in the hall... there are those people who go all through their miserable days and keep thinking to themselves "well at least i got that sandwich to look forward to".

which brings me to my food addiction... i am trying... REALLY trying to diet... but someimes i think... why? what is the point? noone is looking at me anyway. which makes me eat... which makes me depressed, which makes me eat... i go all day thinking when am i gonna eat next? some times when i miss a meal, or eat later i get shakes, and irritable... not because i am hypo-glycimic... or hungry... usualy i am NOT hungry... i dont know...

i just feal like the time i spend here is wasted... even now i am typing this when i should be asleep... i feal like nothing i do is ever gonna be good enough... i dont know... maybe it is just cos it is a quarter after 3 in the morning... and i know thinkgs wont look so bad in the morning... but you know what? after each morning is another night...
alone

ps. no i am not gonna off myself... i dont have a guts for that lol

pps. i really like the line about endless monotany... maybe Jacki will use it in her next story... lol
